My name is Chris. I'm relatively new to reefing-it started as a quarantine hobby in mid-2020 when there was nothing to do but sit at home. I'm still learning as I go but making progress.

I live in Scottsdale with my fiancee. She made it clear from the beginning that she appreciates reef tanks and will support my hobby, but will make 0 contributions to actual reef tank maintenance 😂 We also have a goldendoodle, Theo. My day job is a software engineer at Amazon.

Below is my current Reefer 250 (fishless at the time, but have recently added fish since this was taken). I may look to upgrade in a year or so once our wedding is taken care of, but time will tell. Looking forward to meeting everyone and learning from all the experience in AZ!

Welcome Chris,

Amazing start! Hobbyists that have the support from their significant other seems to stay in for the long hall.

We have a 3 year old golden doodle as well. A bit of a hand full at times but well behaved!!!

Hopefully we'll see you at the next meeting and don't be shy to introduce yourself.

Jimmy

Hi Chris,
Welcome to the group....My wife said the same thing when I had tanks in NY. Last May-ish we put up a 140(72x22x20tall) acrylic.
In Nov we put in a order for a 300 gallon (96x30x24tall)acrylic. we got it mid Dec 2020. we are still in the build phase. I am designing and building everything from stand, 2 sumps, a two chamber refugium, a double chamber container for RODI and Kalkwasser 7 gallons each. WE been cutting and gluing acrylic for the last month and doing the plumbing, should be finished with that pat these next 3 days.
Then onto making the cabinet doors, cabinet wrap and the two section light canopy, then running the wires in pvc pipes inside the cabinet to hide them. Once the 300 is done then we will relocate the 140 while the 300 cycles, going to seed it with water and filter material from the 140. Then tear down the 140 and sell it all....tank,cabinet, lights, etc.

My wife said the same thing not helping with cleaning in NY, but since the 140 has been up and now with this 300 build she has the reefing bug...she loves feeding them and adding to her zoa garden....she even cleans out the skimmer......so maybe your girl will have a change of mind in the future...

My wife is a great cook for 6 months or so she been making me help her grind up all kinds of frozen seafood to make our own fish/coral food for our 140 tank to save money and feed our fish/corals better ingredients....We gave out free samples (test market ) for a while to people who come to fish stores that we have been going to for over a year. The owners of these stores support us and they even love it and feed it to there tanks when we come. In return we got lots of great reviews and suggestions which resulted in the current formula for corals and small to medium size fish....
We now have begun selling private and we also have two retail places who may begin to carry it.
We are making more 1/2 ounce FREE samples packages and hope to give everyone one at the next meeting if they want one...

As you know this hobby can get expensive fast, but I feel at the end of a crazy day sitting with a beverage and relaxing watching the tank has become one of our favorite things to do to get away from the craziness of todays world...

Have a great day,
Sal
